We have a great opportunity for Muskie hunters on a small portage lake only 4 miles from camp. You can drive to this lake, and a short walk will put you at the boat we keep docked there. The lake is fairly small and has Muskie exclusively. There may be a few other fish swimming around, but I guarantee you these are Muskie waters.
Since it is a small lake, the fish are not nearly the size of Muskie on Canyon Lake, but the action can be fast and furious. I have sent clients over for a few hours of fishing on different water, and when I check in on them they have enjoyed an entire day on the lake. This lake provides an opportunity for numbers of fish, as well as a great spot to start you Muskie career if you have not Muskie fished before.
John's Lure Suggestions:
This lake is no deeper than 12 feet, so deep running baits are not a good choice. Stick to buck tails and top water. If you are only seeing fish or having follows, troll a #5 Mepps or a Mepps Muskie killer. Keep one in the prop wash with a short line, and one with a long line. Just move at erratic speeds over the top of the weeds and along the shore line. Use a (s) pattern in your trolling direction and you will hook up.
Also available from our portage lakes are Northern Pike and Lake Trout.
